In one quick glance, your logo provides a first impression of your company. That is why it is so important to have a professionally designed logo that works for you.
The best logos are those with uncomplicated designs that work in variety of media — business cards, websites, invoices, trade show banners, training manuals and all the many ways you promote your business and communicate with customers.
We want you to be able to use your logo as a tiny footer image in a document, in black and white on a photocopy, in full color on your website, and sized huge on a billboard. A well designed logo can serve ALL of these functions, and more.
In our many years of designing logos and graphics, we have learned and followed these guidelines:
A logo should communicate
the personality of the company it represents. When someone describes
your logo, these same words should also reflect your business.
Words like traditional,
bright, trustworthy, innovative, funky,
or smart, might describe different businesses. Using graphical
elements and type treatments, these same words can be translated
into the look and feel of a logo.
In the initial design consultation, the way our clients describe
their company helps us make choices in type style, colors
and decorative elements.
To
present a professional image and reinforce your brand, your logo should
be used on every business document, printed item and digital communication that leaves
your office. All of Surelutions logos are designed to size up and size
down well, so you can use them on anything from a billboard to TV commercial
to a footer in a report. For some clients, we design a logo which has decorative elements that can be used in addition to the logo itself to reinforce the brand and consistency in marketing materials.
For example, the Chelsea Center for the Arts uses large and small swirls from their logo as repeating elements on the background of their website and class brochures.
A logo should be cost
efficient to print and reproduce. This is especially true for small
businesses and non profit organizations, but
also for any business who is watching the bottom line — isn't that all of us? Depending on medium used for marketing, the number of colors in a logo can increase
costs for printing.
In addition, most companies photocopy or fax documents, and logos with many colors or complex shading don't translate well to low quality black and white versions. If you can't make a copy of your business card and have it legible, then you need an alternate design.
Surelutions will always design a black and white version of your logo to use on one-color print jobs (or in reverse on a dark background), along with a color version to use on your website and in full color print projects.
Most importantly, your logo should be a part of your business that you are proud of. A good logo instills confidence and pride in your company, and helps your customers feel the same way.
