  • How does your site look in a text-only browser? You may be shocked to find out! Why do you care? Essentially, all search engines see when they surf your site is the text... none of those pretty pictures or fancy layouts.
    • Lynx viewer - This tool is for designers and developers who have access to their own site files.
    • Search Engine Simulator - Tool to give you an idea how search engine see your page.
  • Who Links to Me? - A fun and useful tool which gives you a quick way to find out what other sites link to yours. You can do this in any search engine, but this is a handy way to check on more than one at a time.
  • Bandwidth Meter - How fast is your internet connection? Use this tool from zdnet to find out.
  • How Fast Does Your Website Load? You may be losing customers if your site takes too long to come up. This tool gives you a ranking, and lists the sizes of all the graphics on your page.
  • Dr. Watson - A nice overall checker of coding syntax, links, download speeds and more. Very useful!

  • Web Developer Toolbar for Firefox - This extension adds a menu and a toolbar to the browser with various web developer tools. For a good overview of the product, visit the Web AIM site, which talks about web site accessibility issues.
  • Constant Contact - An easy-to-use program that allows you to create email newsletters and promotional mailings for your customers.
  • Web statistics - Surelutions uses a program called StatCounter for our own statistics tracking. There are many products out there, but we like one because it's free, invisible to users (no ads or counters), and we have never once received annoying emails from them trying to sell us products.
  • Key Word Selector - Tool from Overture.com that can help you pinpoint key words to use on your web site. For example, if your business sells toys, it's important to know that more people search for "stuffed animal" (21,173) rather than "stuffed toy" (19,054) or "plush toy" (2,331).
